The Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Joseph DeBarbieri recognized and honored the following BCSD students for their outstanding achievements and accomplishments:
Spelling Bees: Congratulations to our champion spellers who competed in the final oral round of the Syracuse.com | Post-Standard Spelling Bee in March at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. You make us incredibly proud: Hudson Dicob, Palmer Elementary School (Grade 5), Nora Goss, Ray Middle School (Grade 6), Kiarash Hosseini, Ray Middle School (Grade 7) and Samuel Meriwether, Durgee Junior High School (Grade 8).
Winter Bees Bands: In March, members of Bees Bands had an incredible showing at their championships. Please join me in congratulating the outstanding accomplishments of our winter programs. Tonight we will honor our two championship teams: Our Indoor Drumline and Our Junior Varsity Winterguard.
Indoor Drumline remained undefeated all season and took home first place in Concert A Class at the New York State Percussion Circuit Championships. Staff Spotlight: Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
A. Correspondence/Board Activities/Committee Reports April 7, 2026-OCM BOCES Annual Meeting - Board Member Wayne Davison Jr. discussed the meeting took place in Cortland, it was nice to interact with the students. He discussed that students would present on their majors and the meals were fantastic. There were also Skills USA students in attendance.
April 14, 2026-Community Cafe-Wellness for the Mind & Body - Board Member Sherry Schraven discussed that there was great feedback and discussion given to our staff and most impressed with the mental wellness work. She congratulated the staff on their work in wellness.
May 4, 2026-Audit Committee Meeting - Audit Committee Chairperson Christina Pavetto reported that a presentation on IT was conducted with the Director of Technology in attendance, highlighting ongoing progress and a focus on vendor security assurances. The external auditor provided an overview of the upcoming audit process and responsibilities. It was noted that the District has effectively managed its reserves, with supporting documentation outlining fund balance accounts and recommended maximum levels. The committee discussed continued collaboration with BOCES to support IT operations and security efforts. A minor reporting enhancement to the financial statements was recommended, and the discussion was described as productive.
Reviewed upcoming events including a virtual policy workshop.
Board Member Wayne Davision Jr. went to the High School Community Cafe regarding adolescent trauma and there was great dialogue on how to recognize it and react to certain situations. It was good conversation and information and he recognized Administrative Erin Robertson for her work in coordinating the event.
Board Member Luke Gasowski discussed the Van Buren Elementary Concert at Baker High School. There was a play and the student music was great. He also discussed the All County Elementary Orchestra at CNS and was blown away by the level of talent of the students and high performance level.
April 7th was the 4th Annual Hall of Fame for Visual and Performing Arts Induction. All inductees discussed how special the Baldwinsville Central School District is to them. It was a talented group and congratulations to those inducted.
B. Student Board Report
Ex-Officio Student Board Member Megan DeMarco discussed the Prom was last Saturday and it was a huge success and a great way to start off all of the end of year activities. Decision day was Friday and they wore their school shirts and took photos on the turf when the sun was coming up. Culture Fest is Wednesday from 6 -8 PM. STEM Fest and the Art Show is the 19th and showcases capstone projects and artwork in one place. There will be 650 AP exams administered this year. The PTSA is looking for help with KBR.

Discussion focused on instructional appointments, particularly teaching assistants, noting a competitive hiring environment and ongoing staffing challenges. The District continues to recruit while also managing retirements and utilizing substitute lists, with additional appointments anticipated in June. There was discussion regarding professional development. The addition of two full-time equivalent special education teachers was discussed, with appreciation expressed for Board support. One position will support Universal Pre-K with associated county reimbursement, and the other will address elementary-level student needs to further strengthen the District’s inclusive special education program.

A. Textbook Series Adoption Requests-First Reading-All Elementary Schools (ELA K-6) Assistant Superintendent Renee Burnett reported that the District has spent the past two years reviewing ELA curriculum options and is preparing to update materials aligned with the Science of Reading, with program texts available for Board review. A Board member inquired about the piloting process, including whether multiple programs were evaluated, what data informed the decision, and how teacher feedback was incorporated. It was noted that the selection process included research, alignment to District goals, and teacher input, with 100% of participating teachers supporting the pilot of the chosen program, and further discussion to follow at a future meeting.
B. Approval/Funding of Collective Bargaining Agreement between the BCSD and Baldwinsville Transportation Support Staff Association (BTSSA)-July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030 Motion by Donald Miller, second by Christina Pavetto that the Board of Education authorize the Superintendent of Schools to execute on its behalf the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Baldwinsville Central School District (BCSD) and the Baldwinsville Transportation Support Staff Association (BTSSA) for the period July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030; and be it further resolved, that the Board of Education fund the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Baldwinsville Central School District (BCSD) and the Baldwinsville Transportation Support Staff Association (BTSSA) for the period from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030, pursuant to the attached.

E. Approval of BCSD Shared Decision Making Plan Biennial Review 2026
Motion by Jeremy Cali, second by Wayne Davison Jr that the Board of Education approve the Baldwinsville Central School District's Shared Decision Making Plan Biennial Review pursuant to the attached.

Motion by Wayne Davison Jr, second by Sherry Schraven that the Board of Education approve the Baldwinsville Central School District's Professional Learning Plan for the period July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029, pursuant to the attached.
Assistant Superintendent Renee Burnett discussed the professional learning plan and review with the PDC Committee, noting updated membership, the addition of new positions, and efforts to streamline and reformat tables using AI assistance for improved organization. The plan now includes distinct mentoring sections for Teachers, BESPA staff(newly added this year), and Administrators, and maintains an active list of CTLE providers in Table 3.1. In response to a question regarding the removal of a reference to “outrageous love,” it was explained that feedback, including Board discussion, led to the change. It does not alter the District’s substantive commitment to supporting all students and restorative practices.

H. Appointment of Impartial Hearing Officer (IHO)
Motion by Christina Pavetto, second by Wayne Davison Jr that the Board of Education appoint Jeanne Keefe as an Impartial Hearing Officer for a student matter pursuant to Policy 7670 and the attached.

Staff members highlighted her strong engagement, optimism, and communication skills, noting her readiness for the role and the positive mentorship she has received.
