clayny.news is an independent, free local news site. We do not run ads, we do not use advertising trackers, and we never sell or share reader data. This page describes everything the site collects, why, and for how long.
The site currently runs no analytics at all — no third-party analytics service and no first-party tracking script. We do not know who you are, and reading this site places no tracker on your device.
Like nearly every website, our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, page requested, browser type) for security and debugging. These logs are deleted at the daily rotation — raw IP addresses live on disk for roughly 24 hours, and no archive of them is kept. We do not analyze logs to identify readers.
When you comment on an article we store the name you enter, your comment text, the time it was posted, and the IP address the comment came from. The IP address is used only for rate-limiting and abuse prevention and is never published. Comments are public; no email address or account is required. To have a comment removed, use the contact form and identify the comment — we honor removal requests without requiring a reason.
Messages sent through the contact form (and any name or email you include) are delivered to the editor and kept as ordinary correspondence, used only to respond to you. The sending IP address is stored briefly for rate-limiting. Corrections you report may be summarized — without your identity — in our public corrections record. Tips are treated as confidential: we never reveal a source without their permission.
The site sets no cookies and runs no third-party code on its pages. Fonts and scripts are served from our own server. The weather box on the homepage is fetched from our server, not from your browser to a third party.
Privacy is not only about readers. Our editorial policy restricts how people appear in coverage: Blotter items never name private individuals (age and town only), incidents involving domestic, mental-health, medical, or juvenile matters are omitted entirely, and anyone named in a minor matter that was dropped, dismissed, or sealed may request removal under our fresh-start rule.
To ask what we hold about you, or to have a comment or message deleted, contact us. We honor deletion requests without requiring a reason.
