At the 2026 NYSPHSAA Track & Field State Championships, Kamryn competed in the 2,000-meter Steeplechase and 800-meter Run. Kamryn finished 10th overall in the Class A 800-meter Run and she placed 5th in the Class A 2,000-meter Steeplechase.

Freshman 8: Christina DeCaro, Sloan Poirier, Lily Chavanne, Molly James, Maya Noon, Tess Warga, Ruth Taylor, Eva Plew, Campbell Schmidt The Senior 4 battled through 1500 meters against two other crews for two coveted semifinal spots. In the end, they came up just about one second short — a heartbreaking finish, but they raced their absolute best race of the season and put themselves right in contention.
The Junior 8 raced aggressively in their heat to earn a spot in Saturday’s semifinals. They came back even stronger the next morning, improving on their performance, but finished just about three seconds shy of advancing to the finals.
The Freshman 8 faced a very competitive field of experienced crews. While they did not advance to the semifinals, they raced with determination and gained valuable national-level experience.
Staff Spotlight: Peter Rapple, Grounds Crew Leader, and Richard Carpenter, Maintenance Crew Leader, were recognized for their outstanding efforts in assembling and installing the beautiful avenue banners that now hang from the light poles across campus. Mr. Rapple will accepted a Certificate of Excellence on behalf of the entire grounds crew in recognition of their dedication and hard work with this special project.
A. District/Board of Education Goals 2026-2027 Goal 1 – Superintendent Dr. Joseph DeBarbieri reviewed proposed revisions to Goal 1, noting that highlighted items represent priorities identified in the Strategic Plan and would be removed once the plan is formally adopted. Additional revisions were identified in green.
Board members discussed the inclusion of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and whether district goals should be more specific regarding instructional practices. Board Member Donald Miller referenced a recent PBL demonstration and suggested that the development and use of essential questions across disciplines could be an area of focus. Administration clarified the distinction between driving questions and essential questions and explained that district goals are intentionally broad, with greater specificity provided through individual building success planning guides. Building-level plans will allow schools to address their unique needs while aligning to district priorities.
Administration noted the addition of implementation of Arts in Education and a continued focus on academic performance. Building plans will further differentiate strategies and implementation efforts. Discussion also included the possibility of initially focusing implementation efforts on specific grade levels and utilizing student data to evaluate progress over time. Board members also discussed the State's proposed competency-based graduation requirements and the district's goal that 95% of students will meet graduation requirements. Members emphasized the importance of understanding and preparing for upcoming changes to graduation pathways.
Assistant Superintendent Renee Burnett stated that exploring Project-Based Learning represents a broad district next step and an opportunity for continuous improvement. She noted that New York State's transition toward competency-based diplomas would result in significant systemic changes in how students experience education. She reported that implementation timelines at the state level appear to be progressing more slowly than originally anticipated, with standards, rubrics, and guidance materials still forthcoming.
Board Member Christina Pavetto commented that the transition is transformative and will impact all aspects of school district operations, including budgeting and policy development. Board Member Donald Miller suggested the consideration of a Project-Based Learning committee to increase board understanding and assist in developing local policies around competency-based education. Discussion also included additional training opportunities related to Project-Based Learning and the Portrait of a Graduate initiative. Dr. DeBarbieri indicated that these topics could be incorporated into a future Board retreat, and Ms. Burnett suggested utilizing the NY Inspires/Portrait of a Graduate Committee to support the work.
Goal 2 – Administration reported that only minor revisions were made to Goal 2, with a few additional action items added. Discussion centered on developing critical thinkers and continuing to focus on Project-Based Learning as part of a multi-year initiative.
Goal 3 – Goal 3 remains focused on mental health, well-being, and physical security. Administration discussed the importance of analyzing trends related to student and staff injuries to identify targeted strategies for improvement. Board Member Wayne Davison Jr. recommended incorporating staff mental wellness into the goal. Goal 4 – Administration reviewed ongoing work related to proposed changes in school start and end times. Dr. DeBarbieri stated that the district intends to act on a proposal by August and that planning efforts continue, including transportation analyses and preparations associated with the district's capital project and grade-level reconfiguration. If construction at Ray is completed as anticipated, changes would take effect at the beginning of the 2027-2028 school year.
Administration reported that discussions continue with childcare providers regarding after-school care and noted that proposed schedule adjustments are relatively minor, with approximately a 15-minute difference from current schedules, although secondary-level changes would have the greatest impact. Additional after-school opportunities for younger grade levels may be considered as part of the 2027-2028 budget development process.
Vice President Andrew Henty inquired whether schedule changes would be delayed if the Ray project is not completed on time. Dr. DeBarbieri confirmed that implementation would occur only when the building and grade-level shifts are ready. Goal 5 – Administration discussed enhancements to communication efforts, including rotating Community Café sessions designed to provide presentations, thought exchange, professional development opportunities, and information on district initiatives. The first session is planned for September and will focus on communication tools, including ParentSquare and SchoolTool. Administration also noted that recent discussions have highlighted digital tools available to parents to help monitor and control social media access on student devices.
Board members inquired about livestreaming Community Café sessions. Administration expressed a desire to encourage in-person participation and engagement while continuing to evaluate an appropriate balance between in-person and remote opportunities.

Sam Schraven discussed continuing the advocacy liaison for next school year.
Board Member Wayne Davison Jr. discussed David Brown and the blue ribbon commission. There was a discussion regarding a presentation at a future retreat. There was discussion regarding a NY Inspires Committee. Dr. DeBarbieri discussed sharing the current school committees with the Board.
There was discussion regarding Wellness and the Workforce run. It was a lot of fun and had good participation with approximately 85 participants.
Graduation is 1 PM on Saturday. The Reorg meeting is July 1. There will be an election of officers at this meeting.
